Japanese finance minister’s visit to the Faculty of Nursing

All the buildings and hostels currently belong to the Faculty of Nursing have been donated by the Japanese government in 1999 as a part of the development of Sri Jayewardenepura general hospital under the project of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) . Recently Japanese finance minister HE. Mr Shunchi Suzuki visited Sri Lanka and during this visit, the minister has decided to visit Faculty of Nursing on the 12th January 2024. With the directions of Japanese Embassy and the UGC chairman professor Sampath Amaratunga , the vice chancellor of the University of Colombo senior professor H.D. Karunarathne advised the Dean Faculty of Nursing ,Professor Sudath Warnakulasuriya to organize a ceremonial welcome to the finance minister and all the logistic support provided by the central administration of the University of Colombo . According to the schedule HE. Mr Shunchi Suzuki arrived in time with the Japanese Ambassador Mr H. E. Mizukoshi and a delegation of 12 members. UGC chairman Professor Sampath Amaratunga, Vice chancellor University of Colombo Senior professor H. D Karunarathne and Dean of the Nursing Faculty Professor Sudath Warnakulasuriya welcomed the Minister and ambassador with gallants. The procession of the delegation was warmly welcomed by the students of the faculty with Japanese flags in their hands and the dancing group of the University according to Sri Lankan tradition. UGC chairman, Vice-chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Nursing shared souvenirs with the minister and the ambassador . HE Mr Shunchi Suzuki observed the Japanese name boards with the Japanese logo that are fixed in the faculty premises and the especially Minister participated for taking a photograph with the students and staff of the Faculty of Nursing during the short visit .
