About Dean
Ms. W.A.R.P.Menike is Grade 1 Senior Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Nursing of the University of Colombo. She entered the nursing profession in 1986 and holds a BSc with second class upper division Honours in Nursing from the Open University of Sri Lanka, a Master of Science in Nursing from the Open University of Malaysia.
Ms. W.AR.P.Menike is the second Sri Lankan nursing professional to have been elected a Dean in a Faculty. Ever since, she has been able to get 40-year service in nursing.
Prior to assuming the duties as a Senior Lecturer in Faculty of Nursing , in 2018, Ms W.AR.P.Menike dedicated a distinguished career to the Ministry of Health, serving progressively as a Nursing Officer, Nurse Educator, and Nursing College Principal. This experiences provides a comprehensive understanding of the nursing profession. The foundational years spent as a Nursing Officer ensure that clinical reality, patient-centered empathy, and frontline healthcare dynamics remain at the heart of the faculty’s educational strategies.
As an educator and administrative positions such as Head of the institution within the Ministry of Health, her leadership experience has provided a strong foundation for her current role as Dean, enabling effective faculty administration and fostering a supportive environment that promotes student success.
Furthermore, selected by the Ministry of Health for advanced overseas training in Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia, she gained specialized exposure to international innovations in pedagogy, modern nursing education frameworks, and advanced curriculum development. This global perspective is instrumental in the current role as Dean, driving the continuous modernization of the Faculty’s curricula, preparing undergraduate students to become competent, resilient professionals who can succeed as leaders in the evolving global healthcare environment of the 21st century.
In addition to her clinical and Ministry of Health experience, her service within the Faculty as Head of Department, Acting Head, and her contributions to teaching, supervision of students and extracurricular activities have equipped her to provide responsible, collaborative, and effective leadership in her role as Dean.
She joined the Faculty of Nursing, University of Colombo in 2018 as a senior Lecturer Grade II
In addition, she is the member of the Graduate Nurses Foundation (GNF) and Sri Lanka Nurses Association (SLNA)
