Caregiving is often a rewarding, bonding, cherished, and meaningful experience. Caregivers  have many roles and responsibilities. Caregiving requires a great deal of commitment, flexibility, respect, and compassion. Caregivers need professional knowledge in areas like nursing, physical/occupational therapy, and home care trained by the skilled healthcare professionals to provide safe service to the client.

This advanced certificate course proposed by the Faculty of Nursing, University of Colombo will deliver all the basic aspects of caregiving to the followers to provide professional caregiving services. The professional training gained from this course will help followers to get good salary jobs and high chances to get work visas related to caregiving in many western countries. 

The main aim of this course is to provide knowledge, skills and attitudes to work as a professional caregiver in Sri Lanka or abroad. The course is accredited from the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission.

• Level: SLQF 2 / NVQ level 3 &  4)

Minimum Educational qualifications required for enrolling in this course,

You should have sat for all the subjects of the GCE Advanced Level (GCE A/L) examination 

AND

You Should have passed English with a credit pass (C pass)  at  GCE Ordinary Level (GCE O/L) examination. 

Duration

This course will be a 6-month part-time course for NVQ level 04 and a 4.5-month part-time course for NVQ level 03. 

• Theory – from  9 AM to 4 PM via online platforms 
• Practical & Clinical Training – at Faculty of Nursing, University of Colombo from 8.00 am to 4.30 pm
• Lectures/practicals will be on both Saturdays & Sundays

• Course Fee: NVQ Level 04 – 120 000.00 LKR 

         NVQ Level 03 – 95000.00 LKR

Learning Outcomes

Once you successfully complete the Advanced Certificate in Caregiving NVQ 3 course, You will be able to,

1. Identify the qualities, role and responsibilities of a caregiver
2. Plan a quality care for clients with different age groups according to their needs.
3. Communicate with the client effectively and trustfully
4. Attend domestic affairs of a client ensuring safety, condition and requirements of the client
5. Assist the client in their activities of daily living
6. Demonstrate the required knowledge and skills for take care of the caregiver

Once you successfully complete the Advanced Certificate in Caregiving NVQ 4 course, You will be able to,

1. Identify the qualities, role and responsibilities of a caregiver
2. Plan a quality care for clients with different age groups according to their needs.
3. Communicate with the client effectively and trustfully
4. Attend domestic affairs of a client ensuring safety, condition and requirements of the client
5. Assist the client in their activities of daily living
6. Attend to the client’s basic medical needs including medication, checking vital signs, monitoring their health condition, recognising health warning signs 
7. Attend needs in old age ensuring health, personal hygiene,  nutrition, elimination and safety of the client.
8. Demonstrate the required knowledge and skills for take care of the caregiver
